In trying to entertain myself in my spare time and wanting to earn a little extra money, I thought it would be a good idea to find a part-time job where I could have fun and the time would fly by. That is how I ended up in the retail zoo!
I was feeling pretty proud that my first interview with a big retail chain was the successful one. Within a few days I started my first 4 hour shift. Turns out...retail isn't as much fun as I'd hoped, but certainly interesting. Take last night, for example. The one girl that I was working with is a high school drop-out with no ambition to work and a definite dislike for the fashion area, that she is more than comfortable telling anyone who will listen. Well, honestly, you didn't even have to look like you were listening...she just talked and talked. After 40 minutes into her 30 minute break and all hell breaking loose at the fitting rooms, I had snapped. She returned and argued with me for another 30 minutes about how long her break was, even though I had already told her that it was not appropriate to discuss this situation in front of the customers and I was through talking with her. She then wandered off and spent the rest of the evening helping every other department, except the one that she was supposed to be in. I was exhausted at the end and contemplated quitting all the way home. I did, however, get up the next day and headed back for another "adventure".
It is certainly a wake-up call for society...way more jobs than employees and hiring the wrong employee will leave a bad taste in the mouths of the customers.

October 22, 2007
Normally, I hate Mondays. That's always the day that I am sleep deprived, cranky and everything seems to go wrong. However, today was a different day all together!
I was up earlier than I wanted to be and cursed to myself that it is still dark - I figure if the sun isn't up, I shouldn't be up either. By the time I turned the water off in the shower, I was a little more civil and decided that employment wasn't such a bad thing after all.
Despite the cloudy day and drizzle of precipitation, I headed to the office. I am never surprised that I can find a parking spot...most people do not start their day until 8:00 a.m., so at 7:15, it's a safe bet there's a spot on the street just for me!
The first e-mail I read was from a girlfriend telling me that she'd found a former high school friend on Facebook. Just finding that out made me feel all warm and fuzzy and then she hit me with it.
She was still in her pj's, drinking coffee in front of her computer. Sometimes, life just ain't fair.
